The warmer weather in most parts of the country has resulted in an earlier than normal start to the spring pond season, in those areas where there is a pond season. Hobbyists are tired of being cooped up inside all the time and want to get out in their yards and work on their ponds and the landscaping.
If you live in an area where the pond goes through a Winter season, getting it ready for the Spring will involve several steps to get the new season off to a good start.

When deciding to put in a pond in the backyard, it can sometimes be difficult to decide between setting up a formal Koi pond, a natural fish pond or a water garden. Most first time pond keepers elect to set up a Koi pond since it is a simplier design, essentially a swimming pool for the Koi.
Although we are still in winter's grip, spring will be here sooner than you think. Late January through February is a great time to start planning what pond plants you will add this year and where/how you will plant them. You need to keep in mind having plants that cover the surface, submerged plants, and bog (or marginal) plants. All three of these plant types have specific purpose.
