Fire Red Freshwater Shrimp, Neocaridina heteropoda var. “Fire Red,” are selectively bred freshwater shrimp for a solid red color. Due to this, the color is fairly consistent from specimen to specimen. They are like their Cherry Red and Fire Yellow counterparts in their activities. They will pick at and eat algae from every stem or leaf of plants, each piece of aquarium substrate, and any other item placed within the aquarium. If kept with Cherry Red and Yellow Fire shrimp, the Fire Red are likely to cross breed, which would result in offspring with less intense color.
