February is Dental Care Month for pets. While cat dental care is important year round, it is good to have a yearly reminder on ways to properly care for your pet’s teeth. There are easy ways to keep your cat’s teeth pearly white. Here are some tips to keep cat dental care fun, easy, and manageable.

Fun & Easy Cat Dental Care

Cat owners have a few options for cat dental care, and those options mainly revolve around eating and drinking.

When you give your cat dry cat food, he is cleaning his teeth as he chews. Hard food scrapes against your cat’s teeth and gums, rubbing away plaque and tartar. Hard treats do the same thing. There are specific cat dental treats, such as Feline Greenies. Feline Greenies have a unique shape and crunchy texture that helps reduce tartar.

Adding Dental Rinse products to your cat’s water is another way to keep your cat’s teeth in great shape. Some dental rinses are antimicrobial rinses that contain chlorhexidine and mint oil, others contain stabalized chlorine dioxide and baking soda to eliminate odor causing organisms. Simply add the dental rinse to your cat’s water bowl as instructed, and your cat will basically be using a toothbrush every time he drinks!

Toys that your cat chews on also help remove plaque and tartar from his teeth. Chewing on the fabric of the cat toy helps to rub away plaque and tartar, as well.

Hopefully, these tips will help you keep your kitty’s teeth clean throughout the year. Providing daily cat dental care now will help prevent potential dental issues later!
